We got engaged last month and are planning a summer 2007 wedding...

Anyone else out there? What have you accomplished so far?

We're close to picking a location (Lodge at Torrey Pines or Paradise Point) the officiant (a friendly Rabbi) and a date (August 19th) but that's about it for now.

I really want to get started but being a full-time college student in another part of the state makes it difficult!

I'm also planning for Sept 2007. I haven't done much in terms of reserving vendors because FI wants to get married at Cuvier Park in la jolla and you can't reserve the park until a year in advance, plus the date selection is lottery-based, so we won't have an official date until Sept 2006.

So, instead, I'm trying to do all the things that don't require a date, and spread out the miscellaneous expenses while I'm at it, (website, my dress, BM dresses, favors, figure out a friggin theme/color scheme, etc).

you can't plan too early. i got engaged nov 2004 but our wedding isn't
until nov 2006.. two whole years to plan! but, i'm glad i started early, i
got all the great vendors that i wanted! if you wait, it's slim pickins!
heehee.. though many places won't reserve more than a year in advance,
just be persistant, and call often to check. sometimes, they'll slide you in
(that's what they did with me, at least) good luck!

Hi! I got engaged in July 2005, and getting married August 4, 2007 at the Immaculata at USD. So far we've booked our photographer (We just clicked with Trailbrook Photography) and started interviewing videographers.  I can't wait to try on more dresses.  So far I am in love with one at Here Comes the Bride.   I'm so glad we started planning early or else I would have been going crazy.  Still looking for receptions sites...anyone with recommendations for hotel beach sites? and anyone know a good day of coordinator?

ccruzrn - which area are you interested in & how large is your guest list? The Immaculata is so central that you could scope out coastal hotels from La Jolla to Coronado. La Valencia in La Jolla is gorgeous as is Loews in Coronado. The Coronado community center is really nice too and you can bring in your own vendors which can cut back on costs. Paradise Point in Mission Beach is also very pretty! good luck with your planning.

alwaysabrdsmaid- Thanks for the recommendations.  Our guest list is approx 200, but we don't want to go over 250.  We are looking for a hotel by the water, and would like windows in the ballroom to overlook the water.  So far we've been to Paradise Point, Hyatt Islandia, Bahia.  Has anyone been to a reception at The Dana Inn on Mission Bay?...from the pics online it looks nice.

ccruzrn - I was a MOH in a wedding at The Dana this summer. It was a very nice venue. The reception was in the giant room with the huge glass windows (i'm not sure what the name of the room was) and the wedding coordinator that came with the venue was extremely helpful all day.  It's a beautiful location...you should check it out.

We just decided to get married in February and are planning the wedding for May 27, 2007.  We have been looking at venues like crazy because I wanted ours picked out and ready so we could call on the one year date - we are getting married over Memorial Day Weekend and it is bound to be a popular date!  Also, I am starting a new job so I wanted the venue taken care of - and we are close to booking a DJ and a photographer.  My work is going to be crazy so I want these big things out of the way now.  CCruzm ~ The Dana was our first choice until we saw The Catamaran, even though it was bit more expensive we decided to go with it.  However, The Dana is very pretty and the staff seemed to be quite helpful.  It is also quite affordable.  Out of the places you mentioned though, if you can afford it, I was most impressed with Paradise Point, however it was just too much for us.  The Hilton in Mission Bay is also nice - but the same price range as The Dana and I think the Dana was much better.  I have a ton of information on it, if you have any questions.  I have heard that Bahia won't book more than six months out but I don't know for sure since I haven't been there.  The Dana is very strict on their booking - they start a wait list one month from the month you want to get married but then won't tell you anything until the exact one year date from your wedding - that was another reason why we picked The Catamaran because I felt like we'd be screwed if we waited for The Dana and didn't get it.  The Catamaran let us go ahead and book now since we were ready to put money down.  Their policy is generally a year out but since we were trying to get a holiday weekend, they let us book.  I hope the helps!
