Hi, recently engaged and planning my wedding (way in advance) for June of 2007.  I am having such a hard time deciding who to pick as my bridemaids.  Can you offer suggestions?

My sister is my maid of honor.  My fiancee is having a best man, and two groomsmen, one of whom is his brother.

I want all my friends to be in the wedding (5) so that would be six on my side and 3 on his.   I cannot pick two people out of 5 to be in the wedding.  I want them all... will it be totally weird to have 6 and 3?  I mean, when they walk out of the church they could either walk 2 girls and one guy... or alternate one girl and one guy couple, and then one girl alone.

Here are my choices:
1. Sister-in-law (married to fiancee's brother, I was in her wedding, and fiancee's brother will be in ours... had no objection to including her, she is a really good friend - we live practically next to each other, just only known her a year)  My mom and sister wonder why I am including her, but they don't even know her.  She totally wants to be in wedding.

2. Friend from High School - really good friend since high school.  Now lives in san diego.  - can totally count on her. (was in her wedding)

3. Three friends from College
One friend would be crushed if she was not in wedding party. (she asked me to be her MOH when she was engaged)
Another friend would not care either way... but she is my best friend now. (I actually married her!)
And the other friend lives 4 hours away, but I could totally count on her if needed.

How can I decide just two?  or should I go with all?  the only thing holding me back from choosing all is the odd numbers thing, but who will really care in the long run right?  The girls and I all hang out together, do everything together.

Oh, and by the way, my fiancee will not budge on his 3 people.  he could not have any more or any less! ug, so frustrating. I initially just wanted my sister, and his brother, that is it.  He is way too picky about this wedding already. ha ha

I think you should have as many or as little as you want!  I say if you want 5, then have 5 - so what if 2 people walk alone.  Since you're all such good friends maybe the 2 can walk down together.

I agree with JennaandZack.  It is your special day, and you should have the people you feel closest to around for support and to share in the joy.  If you want 5 bridesmaids GO FOR IT!    Who cares that there are only 3 guys on the grooms side?!

Heck, my brother is my "Maid of Honor"  (or Man of Honor, I should say)!  How "weird" is that to have a guy on the brides side?  But, it's my day and I want him there.

HTH!

Thanks JennaandZack and Dizzy_Girl!  I think I just need some conformation in my decision, and you made me feel so much better about it.  :)

There's no rule that says the wedding party must be equal on each side.  Fortunately for us, we each have 4 great friends, so it all worked out.  However, you have to know who is important to you and who you want to be there standing up for you.  Don't pick someone because they really want to be in your wedding or because you were in theirs.  Good luck!

I am in the same situation. My sister is my MOH and I have 6 BM and he only has 3 GM. If you really want these woman as your bridesmaids then go for it. It is totally fine to have an uneven number of BM and GM. If you don't want anyone to walk alone you can have two bridesmaids walk with one guy.
