HI Ladies!  I  have given in to the BI addiction and have decided to start a journal!  I figure at the end I can print it out and have something to document all of the fun and excitement leading up to the wedding.

How We Met

FI and I met six and a half years ago through a mutual friend. Now, niether one of us keep in touch with her  due to each of us having our own personal issues with her!  I think the last time we saw her was at a funeral...Anyway, I am glad that we both knew her at one time because without her we wouldn't have met!  We spent time together as friends first, but there was always a chemistry between us that people around us noticed and would comment on how we should get together.

One night we went out drinking and he had WAY too much!  I wound up taking care of him on our walk home from the bar (about 1 1/2 miles)!  The next day he picked me up at work with flowers and a card saying that I was an angel......I guess my maternal instincts paid off!!!!

We were basically together ever since.

The Proposal

I have read so many wonderful propasal stories!!!!  Mine is not one of them....but that's OK!  Actually, FI asked me to marry him Sept 8, 2001.  I was mad at him for some reason and he came over.   As I was getting dinner ready he said, "You wouldn't marry me, would you?"  I was in a really pissy mood and said in an irritated voice, "Of course I would, why?"  FI "I  guess i am asking"  Me, "Well, I guess I am saying yes..."  Yup, romance at it's finest!

Short version so we can fast forward to this year...He bought me a ring and we wound up moving to Los Angeles, we had problems, I gave the ring back and then he moved back to San Diego.  We worked things out during the next year or so long distance and it progressed to us talking about getting a house.  I moved back to SD and we moved into our house on Halloween last year.

Since then there has always been the underlying understanding that we would get married....SO we took my dad and his girlfriend out for a drink after a Padres game and FI told my dad how much he loved me and wanted to spend his life with me....This was HUGE seeing as how my dad and FI would not speak for five of the six years we have been together(longer story)!  My dad gave us his blessing (after jokinglin saying No!)  It has been a very long road for us to get to this point!  But we are definetly ready to get married and start our lives together!

I can honestly say that I am soooo happy at this time in my life!  The people I love are with me and getting along and I couln't be happier!

The Ceremony

Although neither one of us is very religous, we were both raised Catholic.  So we are going to have the ceremony at the church where i received my first holy communion and confirmation, St. Michaels in Poway.  This wound up being very imprortant to me because the church actually burned down in the 90's and has been rebuilt.  The only time I have been in the new church is for one mass and my grandparents funeral masses....so I am really happy that we are having our ceremony there.  I will feel like my grandparents are closer with me on that day!

Our priest is from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, FMIL asked if he would be a visting priest and marry us.  We have met with him once and he didn't really seem too concerned with who we were, more like he wanted to lecture us about the sanctity of marriage and how it is for llfe...I was sitting there thinking, "Um...we are in our 30's and have been together for over six years.  I don't think we are rushing into this!!!!"  Then he told us that he might be transfered out of the area at the beginning of July!  (our date is July 15th)  So i guess we will just have to wait and see what happens!

We went to our Pre Cana and found it to be very basic.  Some of it was entertaining, but for the most part we already knew what they were telling us....but that's Ok.  We did it like a prerequisite in college!!!!!

My FI is Filipino, so we are having a large wedding....sponsors, cord, veil, coins, you name it, we are doing it!!!! We have 12 attendants plus coin and ring bearer and flower girl, 5 primary and 3 secondary sponsors!  I joked with my FMIL that it was going to be a parade!!!  She laughs everytime we talk about the sponsors and is urging me to add more!!!!!!!

 Rings

I really love my ring!  It is a one carat radiant cut set in platnum (sp?).  We picked out my e ring and his wedding band at the same time.  His ring looks NOTHING like mine, but if that's what he wear!!!!  He got a plain tungsten band.  We have looked for my wedding band and will purchase it in the next few months.  He wants to buy me a blingy one, while I think a more simple design would be fine (and more economical!)  We bought our rings at Harold Stevens Jewelers downtown.  They are really helpful and have beautiful designs!  Well, more later.  i have to work on my report cards!!!!

Reception

The first place we went to check out was the Hyatt Aventine...it is sooo beautiful!  They have a glass pavillion that is nice and different from the ballsroom weddings that we have been to.  I like that it will have the slight feel of a garden reception but it will be inside!  I am legally blind and light really hurts my eyes...so my only conern was that it would be too bright for me in july and that I would have to wear my sunglasses (which I already wear 70% of the day anyway, but didn't want to on my wedding day if I could help it..)

We talked with my dad about it and he thought it was too much...and suggested we keep looking.  But we didn't see anything else that was available that we liked...So after going back and forth about it (not in a bad way, just discussing!)  Dad gave us a check and told us to do whatever we wanted and we could keep whatever was left, if any!

I tallked with the catering manager at the Hyatt and she said they plan on installing blackout shades in the pavillion so that they can use the space more often for Powerpoint presentations, etc.  When she said that I almost cried!  i had called and researched over 60 venues, so I was extatic that we could have the place we actually wanted and i would be able to see on our day!!!!!!

I just love this place!!!!  Host a wedding reception as beautiful as the bride at Hyatt Regency La Jolla

Welcome to journaling! I love your reception site. I haven't been to a wedding there, but I have eaten breakfast in the restaurant several times and they have fantastic food and wonderful service. I can't wait to hear more!

Thanks for the welcome ladies!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to reduce some of my stress......my dad and his girlfriend (might as well be wife, so i should just call her stepmom!)  and FIL's are coming for dinner in 4hours!!!!!!  Prior to this they have met once..yes, once!  And although it went well, it was only for 20 minutes....this is a meal!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAK!!

FI doesn't seem stressed about it, he's watching the Charger game (he never watches football!)  but I am now on my way to clean like a madwoman and put the prime rib in the oven....I will just remember to breathe...and have some of the champagne dad is bringing.  He bought six cases for the wedding, so I hope i like it!

Sigh of relief...AAAAHHHHHHH!  We had a very nice evening!  Champagne was AWESOME!  Roederer, I think is the name...it's a sparkling wine because supposedly you can't call it champagne unless it was made in that region of France!  (wine snob tip of the day courtesy of my dad! )

We taled and laughed a lot....My FI's dad talks about money a lot which is kinda uncomfortable because he keeps telling my dad how rich my dad is (he's not, he just likes to spend! I knew I got it from somewhere!)  All in all, it was very nice!

We have GOT to get our Christmas shopping done....hopefully finish tonight!

Hi bubbles!

Congrats on getting your dream reception venue... it is SO beautiful!  Excellent choice... ooh, I love all the windows!

As for all your sponsors... I hear ya!  I'm Filipino and have a huge family!  I'm like, "Get ready for a big party!"  It'll be a shock for his side, especially the way we celebrate at weddings... madness, but so much fun!

Welcome to journaling.... looking forward to more!
