So, this is the situation.  I am about to graduate in May, we're putting our house on the market next week, I currently have a job that sucks and misc bills (car, mortgage, etc..) are all the while ever present.  I guess I could start looking for my corporate job now but my schedule limitations and inability to fully devote myself makes me really apprehensive to go that route.  So my question is this: What should I do?  I'm trying to find a P/T job right now that pays well but it seems like their non-existent.  I figured waitressing would be my best option because I did that before and made really good $$ but I'm over that whole type of atmosphere.  What to do?  I'm a fast learner, very dedicated and willing to explore different types of positions.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I just feel really clueless right now!

Are there any particular skills that you want to improve on? that way even if the pay is so-so, it'll help as you interview for your corporate job because you can say you have that skill, etc.

If you are just looking for a temp job, you can look at the local universities to see if they are hiring temporary admin assistants or whatnot. I think those can pay around $12-15/hr, so not great but better than other traditional part-time jobs. Or you can check with local temp agencies, sometimes you can find a good paying one.

Good luck! Wish I had something specific to offer!

Thanks Emily!  I know, it's so frustrating.  I already checked with SDSU's career building program and nothing there either.  Thanks anyway!

Hi m&vp.

I work for Kaiser Zion and I remember seeing a post for a PT Cashier for the Optometry Department.  The location is for the LaMesa Clinic.  The great thing is that you get full medical benefits even if you work PT.  I cut the qualifications from the Kaiser employment website and pasted below:

Qualifications: Knowledge of standard office equipment, computers (CARG & OPAS Systems) and ten key adding machine. Strong basic math skills, interpersonal skills, good oral and written communication skills required.

Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual/Multilingual. Two years of recent cashiering experience. Optical cashiering, contact lens and customer service/retail experience. Good problem solving abilities, typing and good penmanship.

Notes: Will be required to work other San Diego Optical and Optometry locations. Hours and days may vary. Will be part of Saturday rotation.

The computer qualification above isn't a big deal.  They'll train you on the above programs.  As long as you have basic computer skills which I'm sure you do.  Here's the Kaiser employment website if you want to browse for something else: http://www.kaiserpermanentejobs.org/

You can PM me if you need more info.

Good Luck!

Thanks GeeBee!  That sounds good!  I'm going to go check it out right now.  Do you have any idea about what the compensation is and what hours?  I'll go see if I can figure that stuff out right now but I just wanted to say thanks for looking out!
