hi kme2be and welcome to BI!  your stories are sooo sweet. i love how you first met, your first non-date and real date and proposal stories!  it was meant to be!   i also have edelweis..is it edelweis in mira mesa? that's where i got mine. oh my, those bm and fg dresses are beautiful!  i also went to engagement encounter.  i think it was one of the best things rene and i could've done together for our relationship.  just go there with an open mind and heart and i promise you, you will leave with a better understanding of yourself and your FI.  where are you having ee at?  oh yes, and your dress is absolutely stunning on you! you look beautiful! anyhoo, keep up the great job and happy holidays to you and yours!

Hey cristinarosetti! We're going to do our EE at the Mission in Oceanside in February.  I've heard so many great things about it, and we're actually starting to look forward to spending that time together.  I hope your plans are going well for 2007!

I just wanted to add a few random things today to try to catch up.  Our photographer is Noelle Franzen. We met with her back in August before we even had a date or place.  Thanks to kaciinge for her recommendation.  Noelle was a great person to sit down and chat with.  She really seemed to understand what we were looking for, and she seemed to be really concerned with making our day perfect.  She talked about some of the horrible ways she's heard of photographers taking advantage of people on their wedding day, and she really comes across as genuinely good person.  I am not one to make snap decisions (although FI is), but we were both so impressed with her work and her caring attitude that we were ready to book her.  She was the first vendor we talked to and the first one we booked, and we're so excited to work with her.  We are probably going to have e-pics done soon, but we haven't quite decided yet.  Thanks to all the newlyweds who gave me their opinions on that.

For some reasons pictures aren't posting right now, so I'll get back to this later.  I want to post pics of our flower ideas, and Kelly's ring.  I hope everyone had a great Christmas!

In my last few days of freedom before going back to work , this is probably a good time to write the mother of all to-do lists.  I'm going to try to get everything down (yeah, right) and add my random thoughts as well.

  • Meet with church coordinator (scheduled for Jan. 9) *Done
  • Meet with Tess at Tessilk flowers to confirm order and get a more finalized contract *DONE
  • Meet with DJ Mike Ellis to talk music/timeline (and to introduce ourselves a little, since FI has only talked to him on the phone) *DONE
  • Meet with Melanie for timeline of ceremony/reception*DONE
  • Pre-Cana in Jan. *DONE
  • EE in Feb. *DONE
  • I guess schedule meetings with priest after these *DONE
  • Meet with photographer Noelle Franzen to discuss pics (3/18)
  • Go for a tasting at the Hilton and DECIDE ON THE MENU already!!! (hors d'oeuvres vs. sit-down???) *Pretty much decided on hors d'oeuvres, and they don't do tastings for those.  Oh well!
  • order purple unscented votive candles *DONE
  • FIND A HAIR PERSON!!!!! *almost done *DONE
  • Go for a makeup trial with Devra *done
  • Make sure GM, dad, and brother have gotten measured for tuxes *DONE
  • find my mom a dress *DONE
  • find jewelry and a garter
  • finalize address list and give to BM and MOH for shower/bach. party *almost done *DONE
  • dress fittings, starting Feb. 2, which of course means*DONE...
  • get off my lazy butt and work out!!! *STARTED
  • find gifts for BM and GM, order Build a Bears for FG and RB *done
  • find gifts for parents
  • pay off all balances   (DONE, except reception)
  • print out coloring book (DONE) and talk to Kinko's or somebody about format
  • make programs (which I can't do until the ceremony is nailed down, which I can't do until I talk to the church and the priest and the musicians and the people doing our readings)
  • order toasting glasses (DONE), cake server set(DONE), maybe favors
  • make table numbers/names and placecards
  • arrange seating (do this before above!)
  • ORDER INVITATIONS (I have been totally lagging on this.  I have some we like online, but then I was gripped by this inexplicable need to see them in person to make sure they aren't cheesy and I haven't gotten to it yet.  I may need to just suck it up and deal with ordering them online.) *almost done *done and sent, already have 101 yes RSVPs
  • tanning?  I don't want to look like a ghost.
  • possibly make pew bows (I might be crazy)
  • order tux for RB (ebay rocks!) *parents decided to rent
  • make reservations for RD (Filippi's, yum!) *DONE
  • order cake for RD???
  • make FI apply for his passport, like, yesterday! Even though we're just going to Ensenada, I don't want any screw ups.  If the cruise line recommends it, we're doing it. *DONE
  • Find paper for wish bowl, print out poems reminding people to do it and take pics with the disposable cameras
  • Check and see if the person who offered to buy our disposable cameras for us is really going to do it *DONE
  • Find a small traditional guest book for signing in at the ceremony *done (gift at shower)
  • rent a car for the weekend (I'm going to try to rent a car FI drools over as my gift to him, a Dodge Magnum, Dodge Charger, or Chrysler 300) *DONE, going for the Magnum

Oh. My. Goodness.  I started that list out so calm and composed, and then by the end it just took on a life of its own.  And I'm sure there are a few things I've forgotten.  Ok, no problem, it all gets done, right???? Somehow...in 3 months...

I think I'll print this out and just start checking things off.  That will make me feel better, I hope .

ETA:  All the things I've done 1/9/06
Things done 1/14/06
Done 3/9/06

Good for you, for making a giant list! It's helpful to be detailed, this way you are less likely to forget things. If you do decide to make pew bows, I know there is this making-thing at Michaels and with those weekly 40% off coupons, I don't think it is too expensive. My mother swears by this bow thing. It was the first thing she bought when I got engaged   ...if you go with bows it will definately save you some time.

Thanks for the bow idea, brdsmaid!  I must admit that I'm not a very crafty person, so I'll take all the help I can get.

I can't get the pic of FI ring to post, so you can see it here.  FI saw this ring on ebay, but thought he would rather have something wider than the 6mm we found.  He loved the design, so I searched high and low online and could only find it on this site.  However, after dealing with them, I can't recommend them unless you absolutely have to have a certain ring and are willing to wait.

I ordered it on Oct. 1, and it was supposed to take 1-2 weeks to come in.  After 2 weeks, I hadn't gotten a shipping confirmation, so I emailed them.  They assured me that it would be ready for shipping "soon".  Two weeks later, I found that my credit card had been charged and I still hadn't heard anything!  I emailed them and said that I was ready to cancel my order and demand a refund.   Magically, it was ready to ship the next day, and they said they would upgrade it to UPS Next Day for free.  Big whoop, it was already set for UPS Second Day for free.  Then, last month I looked on the website again and the price has dropped over $100!!!!  I was pretty unhappy.  I could probably complain and get some money back, but I'm so done with it.

The main reason I went with this company is that the ring is tungsten, which can't be resized and they have a policy where if you need a different size, they will take back the old ring and send you a new one for $20.  We'll see what kind of service I get if I ever have to do that.  This has been the biggest pain I've had to deal with so far, so I guess I should be grateful that I ordered it in plenty of time and it's fine.

Next up - flowers!

We visited the florist that our coordinator, Melanie, recommended.  It's Tessilk flowers in Chula Vista, and Tess gave us an amazing deal.  She also mentioned she was doing a wedding at the Immaculata that weekend in our colors and we should come check it out.  Here are some pictures we took while we were there.  We're going with all sorts of purples and whites in the altar arrangements, all lavender roses for my bouquet, and ivory roses and tulips for the BM bouquets.

FG basket

If this was the wedding of someone here, thanks!  I think Tess did a great job on these and I can't wait to see what ours will look like.  She said that my bouquet will be on display at the Bridal Bazaar at the end of the month, so look for purple roses with the name Kristen and Kelly on it.

Our cake is from Edelweiss and will look something like this, but bigger (for 150 people).

We will have the tiers separated a little bit, about 1 1/2 inch columns between them.  We'll have it decorated with 1 doz. lavender roses.  We'll have lavender petals on the cake table.  I don't know where I got this picture, but someone gets credit for it.

Hi kme2b, thanks for stopping by my journal yesterday.   I just love the cake you chose, it's gorgeous!  You must be getting so excited, less than three months until your big day, woo hoo!

Hi FMON!  Thank you for stopping by here.  I am getting really excited, but with less than 3 months to go, there is soooo much to do, so it's getting overwhelming.  I've only really been able to plan since August, so we've been on wedding overload since then, but it will all be worth it.

What I'm trying to do now:

  • Schedule meeting/tasting with catering manager at the Hilton
  • order invitations, once we decide on the menu
  • find a place to rent a car, cheap
  • find a hair person ASAP

I also need to buy a new car while mine is still running and I can get a good trade-in value, which is fun, but more stress. I'm looking at a new Prius, which also gives us a tax credit next year .  Plus it's cool!  I freak out before making big purchases, though, and a car plus the wedding is going to send me over the edge.  Also, we're thinking that I need to switch over to FI's credit union now to try to get a better rate on the car loan, so we need to open our joint account, even though we still have 3 months before we get married and live together.  Of course, that leads to trying to find new joint car insurance and so much other stuff.  I don't know how to do all this!  All these changes are just STRESSFUL right now!  Oh well, what would planning a wedding be without a little (or a lot of) craziness??

Thanks for listening (reading)!

I love the prius, but I know what you mean about the whole big purchase thing...just keep reminding yourself that you get a tax credit and save $ on gas! Good luck with your upcoming meetings...food tastings - yum!
