How many photographers does everyone actually meet with before choosing one?  I feel like I get a good sense from their websites whether I like them or not...How much would everyone recommend shopping around?  I have found someone whom I really like on line (Ocean Tsunami - thanks for the idea) and her prices don't make me want to cry - how much more should I look?

We met with four and also researched on-line.  It just depends on what you're looking for and whether or not you feel that you can trust that person to photograph your most special day.

I think it's important to meet with the photographer in person to see if you "click" with them.  Afterall, you want to be able to feel comfortable around them enough for them to be photographing you and your new husband all day long.

I interviewed two, but had called many many many other
photographers, but based on price and what they could give me
(negative, etc) I narrowed it down to 3. This was before i knew about
this website. However, my photographer got a bad star rating on this
website, but i have had two personal friends go through them, and
they were wonderful, so i guess the point is, i would interview,
interview, and interview (the ones that you are truely interested in)
and when you get the right vibe from that person, you'll know.

I spent a lot of time online too, and in the end only met with two photographers before making a decision.  The only thing I would caution about the website thing is when you are looking on a website most of the time you are seeing the photographer's "greatest hits" from all sorts of weddings. What I really appreciated in the interviews was seeing a complete wedding photographed beginning to end and looking for consistent good quality throughout the day. I think you can get a feeling for whether or not your like the style online, but I think an interview is worth your time.

In looking around this board I've seen people say they booked the first photographer they met on the spot, and others say they have interviewed 14!  If you feel comfortable with the photographer, they offer a package that meets your needs, and you've got some good recommendations, go for it!

Good luck!

This was such a big thing for FI and I that I wanted to make sure. I actually met with 6! I actually ended up going with the most expensive out of the bunch because of their exceptional work and personality. I would definitely look around. Just in case.

I interviewed 12.  Much like meeting your fiance, you will just "click" with the right photographer.

we met with 2. My FI wasn't thrilled since we loved our first one. Well after we left the second he liked them too. But we agreed that the first was more our style. Plus I didn't "click" with 2nd one as much as he did. But Im so happy with our choice cause last week I ran into some engagement photos that the 2nd one did and had that been me I wouldn't have been happy with the style of their photos. Once you met the person you will know.

Look no more, Ocean Tsunami is awesome! I intwrviewed 4 photographers after looking at a million web sites. You definitely want to make sure you feel comfortable with them because you will be spending one of the most important days of your life with them. It was a tough decision because all of the photographers were easy to 'click' with. I decided on Ocean Tsunami because of her experience and her artistic eye. Susan from Ocean Tsunami brought a lot of pictures to share, which I thought was very helpful to see a full range.

We met with 4 after many hours of research.  However, I always think it's smart to meet with at least 3 vendors from each "category" (i.e. catering, photography, flowers, etc....).  I recently met with a coordinator who had a really smart way of doing it:  chose 1 that costs a bit below your range, 1 that costs a bit over your range, and 1-2 that are just right.  That way, you have a really good idea of what quality and services you can get with a wide spectrum of choices.

And I definitely agree with some that have already posted about how important it is to mesh well with the photographer you chose!  You really want to be able to work well on your big day, and not have to worry about them doing their job.

I did TONS of research online & then met with 3. One was WAY over my budget but I wanted something to compare to. The other 2 were within my budget & the third I met with fit well with what I am planning plus my FI & I got along with her very well. Third time's a charm!
