We're getting married at a vineyard in Ensenada. We'll be having catered
hors douvers, buffet dinner, wedding cake and full bar for the night
(margueritas, wine and beer). They'll be bringing in everything, chairs,
tables, glasswear etc. We're looking at 80p and the price being quoted
per head is about $83. I wanted to know how this compares to San Diego
prices?

With the price including alcohol, I think that is a pretty good deal.  Have you seen an event done there or tasted their food?  You definitely want to talk to people who have had events there in the past to see how everything turned out.  If all the news is good, I think you may have scored.

Well not sure in the civilian world...but if you have any military links it is only $40 a person on the military bases.

Another big factor you might want to consider is the service charge and tax.  Does the $83 dollars included all service charges, tax, and tip?  The restaurants we visited in San Diego added a 17% service charge on top of all expenses and then taxed that total, followed by a tip on top of that.

The typical prices we were quoted for restaurants in San Diego:

$5-7 a person on appetizers
$35-45 on buffet
$3-5 for cake plus, $1 for the cake cutting fee
$5 a drink (if your guests drink a lot this will add up quickly)

Once you add that up, and charge the 17% service charge, and tax, it could be around $80.

The price seems reasonable.  I've seen cheaper and more expensive quote per head in San Diego.  I would shop around and compare with other places.  See what others have to offer.

that seems pretty reasonable for full bar all night, the cake, and all food!
Happy Planning ;)

Also, you may have less people if you do Ensenada, so your total costs may be lower even if your per person cost is higher. I think it is comparable to the costs I have seen.

Sounds pretty comparable to me to for all that you said was included. SD prices are so different everywhere that there is no set price...did that make sense?

"Well not sure in the civilian world...but if you have any military links it is only $40 a person on the military bases."--Calohigirl

This is the price on base,  however it does NOT include your cake and a bar w/ beer, wine, and margaritas ALL night. You get one keg of domestic beer and cheap wine for your cocktail hour.

I think your price is pretty reasonable, but do make sure to check if the tax and service charge is also included in that price or if it is extra. Do you have to pay a facility rental fee on top of that/is it also included?
