well i love reading all of your journals and i may have
something useful for other girls to read so today is the day i
start my journal :) besides, i need something to help keep all
my ideas straight in my head! haha

how we met...
in august of 1996 i was home sick from my senior year of high
school. i decided to play on aol to waste some time until my
friends could call after school and catch me up on what i
missed. i went into a san diego chat board and typed "a/s/l"
when i put in 17/f/ca i received a large amount of instant
messages. for the most part they were asking me if i wanted to
have sex...um, no thanks! but keith's instant message was
funny. i don't remember what it said but it was just right to get
me to reply.
we talked everyday online for about a month. i asked for his
number so we could actually hear each other's voices but he
was scared to! hahaha. so being the smart guy he is, he gave
me his mom's fax line and a time to call, that way if i turned out
to be some old man wanting a young guy he could reconnect
the fax and never hear from me again!
well the first night i called was a weeknight and neither of us
went to bed that night. i remember crawling into my friends car
to drive to school the next morning and she commented on my
large smile what can i say, we hit it off!
we continued to talk on the phone for about a month then
decided to meet in person. we were both still concernced about
this since NONE of our friends had even heard of people
meeting this way then. so we decided to meet at the north
county fair mall. i lived in rancho bernardo and keith was in del
mar. so my friend patricia came with me. we were supposed to
meet on the 2nd level by the body shop. 2 minutes before we
were supposed to meet i made patricia walk past him. when
she got past him she was supposed to give me a thumbs up if
he had been telling me the truth about his age or turn around
and come back to me if he had been lying. our plan was to
leave without ever meeting him if he was some old guy! haha
when particia walked past him she gave me a thumbs up and a
big smile. i walked up to him and gave him a big hug and that
was the beginning!

dating....
keith and i dated from then on. this october it will be 9 years yet
they have flown by. we never broke up to rethink our
relationship, it was always easy. we had talked about getting
married for a long time but we were waiting until he was out of
school.....or so i thought!!
i am a middle school teacher and am about to begin my 3rd
year. keith will be graduating this december and is becomming
an elementary school teacher

disneyland....
keith and i have had annual passes for the past 5 years to
disneyland. we love to go and simply walk around, shopping,
eating, and going on our favorite rides. the friday before
valentine's day we drove up to disneyland after i got off work.
keith said hey its a rainy night (which we both love) and said
how about we eat at blue bayou tonight? i said sure even
though we haven't been impressed with their lunches.
we had a fab dinner and went walking around the empty park
in the rain. when we got to the left side of the front of the castle
(by the little bridge) keith had this funny look on his face and
told me he loved me then dropped to one knee in a puddle!
he pulled out a ring box and asked me to marry him!!!!
i just stood there! poor guy, kneeling in a puddle and his girl
was simply open mouthed staring at him...i don't know how
much time went by but finally he said"SAY SOMETHING!" in a
panicky tone and i replied with "really?" he said "yes really!!"
still panicky. and i told him of course and squealed! we gave
each other a huge hug then both pulled out our cell phone to
call everyone we knew! hahaha

so that was february and since then i have been busy planning
for our april 1st wedding

Hi!  Just wanted to take a moment to say welcome to BI journaling!  Your engagement story is SO cute...puddle and all!   And I can relate with how y'all met.  I met by guy via the internet...which isn't really uncommon now, but NONE of my friends have done that, so it was foreign to all of us.  But...if it works, it works!!!

Well...I look forward to catching up on your wedding planning progress!  Take care and happy planning!!!

 Gwen

ps...how funny...I was at Disneyland two days after you! lol

Hi MauraPea, I just wanted to say your engagement story is so sweet! I also love Disneyland .  Being proposed to in front of the castle, how romantic and appropriate for two Disneyland lovers. Congratulations!

I'm also getting married in 2006, but not until August 26 (I'm sure it will roll around the corner in no time ) I'm always excited to hear about another 2006 wedding progress, it keeps me motivated.

Happy wedding planning!

Date Posted: 7/23/2005 at 11:24am

well it seems logical to begin with everything I have done, so here goes:

date: april 1st, 2006

colors: purple & green (think crayon purple and granny smith apple green)

my e ring: robbins bros

robbins bros was so sweet. keith inherited a diamond from his grandma and let me pick out the setting. we went on valentines night because i had family coming from new jersey and they wanted to see it. robbins bros rushed it and finished it for us that nigh because i told them about my family!

ceremony: san diego mission

after tons on online research and making calls since we are getting married during lent, we visited 5 churches on a saturday. we fell in love with the mission. here is a pic of the outside and one of the inside.

Mission Basilica San Diego Church interior pictureMission Basilica San Diego picture

officiant: msgr bourgeois

msgr has been my priest since i moved to california 14 years ago. we are both very pleased to be able to have him perform our wedding!

wedding party:

we are having 5 bridesmaids, 5 groomsmen, 2 flowergirls and 1 junior usher to escort the flowergirls

we have already asked all of them!

reception: el cortez don room and terrace

keith and i spent the next saturday after finding the church visiting reception sites. we were blown away by the beauty of the el cortez and booked on the spot!!

http://www.elc.cc/donroom/donroomdetail.html">

photographer: carrie mccluskey

http://www.mccluskeyphotography.com/ - http://www.mccluskeyphotography.com/

i interviewed 3 photographers in one day. first was cathy ziegler who was very sweet but more than i wanted to spend. second was chana and don. i really wanted to book them but i wouldn't have been able to get a storybook album if we had them because of cost! last i met with carrie. her prices were great, the pics were beautiful, and she was so easy to talk with! easy discission

dj: elite british dj-mick

http://www.elitebritishdj.net/ - http://www.elitebritishdj.net/

we interviewed 3 djs one evening. jerry beck, tim altbaum, and mick.

we didn't really click with tim, but loved both jerry and mick. it ended up we went with mick because he is funny and we know both sides of families would appreciate that! plus it seems like it will be very easy to work with him. he has so many great ideas already and i figure the less i need to do, the better!!

caterer/florist/cake/decor: paul bott

http://www.paulbott.com/ - http://www.paulbott.com/

paul is amazing and i adore the fact that he is doing so much for me. if i have questions about almost any part of the wedding i can turn to him. he even told me i really don't need a coordinator since i have him!!!

keith and i had our tasting with him last night because i was to include a menu card with the invites. we rolled out of the tasting so happily full! i know he will help make our wedding fab

favors: paul bott

paul is making heart shaped cookies for us that use our colors and have both of our names on them!

invites: regency-4R-F11282WV6429

i love how simple these invites are. i can use my colors an because they are so cheap i can get extras like lined envelopes

okay next step seems to be things i have decided on but haven't booked/paid for/ordered yet!!

bands: diamond gallery

diamond gellery has always been more than helpful and they gave me a great quote for designing my ring. keith isn't picky about his ring (something w/o diamonds and lightweight)

i want a band just like this-

with diamonds set in it like this-

guest book: ceramic platter      http://www.sayanythingceramics.com/ - http://www.sayanythingceramics.com/

i have been searching through websites and instead of a book that i probably won't look through again i want a platter that guests sign. afterwards i pop it into my oven and it gets glazed and the signatures are permanent!!

my dress: jasmine c916

i have literally been to every dress shop in san diego also many in temecula area. i have loved the hunt for the perfect dress. i plan on buying this dress this summer from brides by susanti in escondido. they have always been very sweet and helpful!! the website wouldn't let me copy the pic so this is a link to the dress

http://us.st11.yimg.com/store1.yimg.com/I/modernbridalshop_1882_32024325 - http://us.st11.yimg.com/store1.yimg.com/I/modernbridalshop_1 882_32024325 http://shop.store.yahoo.com/modernbridalshop/jbsawegowifl.html -

my shoes:

i am almost 6 feet tall and keith is 6'1 so i am wearing flats!! i would like a pair of silver ballet slippers. nothing fancy, just comfy

jewelry:

i only want to wear earrings with my dress so i am looking for a long pair of sparkly ones. these ones are from nordstrom

javascript setImage'imgProduct', clickZoomDir">Nadri Crystal Chandelier Earrings

veil: bel aire 8292

a 1 layer fingertip veil edged with silver bugle beads. pic shows the veil, im not interested in a tiara.

bridesmaid dresses: b2 by jasmine

my 5 girls are all differnt looking from one another so i am telling them to get a chiffon tea length in the color iris. they can choose from the 11 dresses that match those requirements and i hope that way they will be more likely to wear them again!!

night of hotel: omni

keith loves the padres and we are booking the omni for the night of our weding since they are next to the stadium and are close to the el cortez.

transportation:

we want a beautiful old car to transport us from the mission to the el cortez from simply elegant. to take us to the omni at the end of the reception we are toying with the idea of renting a pedicab

http://64.182.50.214/images/7lg.jpg"> http://64.182.50.214/images/80lg.jpg -

registry:

target for necessities, crate & barrel for fun little gadgets and pretty things and macys for silverware sheets and towels.

honeymoon- disneyworld and somewhere else...puerto rico perhaps!

flowergirl dresses-bright green and fluffy

hair-

makeup-

tuxes-

presents for everyone-

ceremony music-

plus a million other things I haven’t thought of yet

well i just got back from little kids wear and i saw dresses that were beautiful for cheap but nothing in the color i want!!

i want my little ones in my bright green color since b2 doesn't make kids dresses and i don't want 2 different purples.....

i'm toying with the idea of buying my own fabric at joann's and having susanti make them. she said it would be around $100 or so...

crap, i thought this could all be decided today

Hello MauraPea...I just got through reading your journal.  What a sweet proposal.  You two make such a cute couple. I love DisneyLand as well, and am slowly converting my FI !!  We are also having our wedding at the El Cortez, and are using Paul Bott for flowers, food, & decor as well.  We have only met with him once and absolutly love him.  At first we weren't going to do a tasting until early fall, but after reading your journal I remembered that we have to include meal choices in our invites as well.  Better contact Paul soon!!  Thanks for mentioning that.  If you don't mind me asking, what is your menu like?

i don't mind you asking at all

we are having the melon salad (stunning and delicious)

probably a soup, all the djs we interviewed said he was the only caterer in san diego to serve soup so we should have it. since the wedding is in april probably a cold soup.

then the filet mignon with wasabi mashed potatos and grilled veggies!!!

it was all excellent on friday night we can't wait to eat it again!!!

paul talked me out of offering 2 dishes. i don't have and vegetarians coming but he said he could make something for them. he said it was easier on everyone if there was only the one dinner. that way on rsvp cards only have them check yes or no for attending. i'm including a card saying what will be served so that guests know to come hungry!!

i'm feeling a little queasy right now....tomorrow i am buying my wedding dress!!!aaahhhh.

i'm also in a funny position. my parents and keiths both gave us an equal amount to pay for the wedding. we set up a wedding account at wamu and have been using it to pay for everything. the other night keith's mom made a coment how she doesn't think the joint wedding money should be used to buy my dress. i love her and i didn't take offense but it made me feel uncomfortable. my parents don't have as much money as his and i am pretty sure they think the money they gave us will cover my dress.

so last week i brought it up to my mom and she agreed with me but i don't think my dad will. plus i don't know if she'll bring money tomorrow....we will have to see tomorrow!

my two sisters are my co-maids of honor and they are coming with me tomorrow to order their dresses. one of my sisters is going back up to northern ca for school and needs the dress to be altered in december when she comes home again. i am looking forward to having them find the perfect dresses but i'm nervous about who's paying for mine!

i went to clay and latte in carmel mountain and saw that the
platter i want is only $40, add $8 for using their studio and
having it glazed. then buy 2 ceramic pens and it should be
good to go.....i need to make a little one first to test it out.

Wow, Maurapea!  Super impressive with the planning!  At this rate you'll have your entire wedding planned before the end of the year.  We got engaged in 2003 and that was my goal: to have 2005, to just sit back and relax. HA!  Yeah right!  I was on a roll.... until we got our own place.  I lost the wedding planning steam and started with the new place planning/decorating.  Now I'm paying for it bigtime with 9 planning days left.  Keep it up Maurapea!  I love reading about how your planning is going.  Part of me wishes that my planning isn't coming to an end (a very VERY SMALL part)

i feel that there is so much more to do

there were more addresses/names than i had on the guest

possibly have work friends not bring husbands/dates....i'm not

http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSYYYYYYYYUS">Hello I'm just now getting a chance to catch up on journals and I also want to say welcome to BI! As I was reading your journal I kept thinking "Man! This woman is a super star! http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSYYYYYYYYUS">Star " and then I came to the realization that with your teaching career the earlier you get things squared   away the better.  (I still think that you've done an awesome job thus far!)

There are a few things that really stood out in your journal to me and the first was the fact that you met your FI online because that is the way I met mine! http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSYYYYYYYYUS">I Love You Email What was very romantic was that was 9 years ago and here you are planning your wedding! http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSYYYYYYYYUS">Couples

As far as your guest list, I think it's ok if you invite only your work friends and not husbands/dates. I've known it to be done before and it worked out well because all the co-workers sat at one table and they didn't have to sit with people they didn't know. However, on the other hand, just be aware that there are people who do not feel comfortable with leaving their husbands/significant others behind. (which in a way could be a good thing depending on how you look at it ) I love what you've got going so far and look forward to reading more! Til next time, take care and keep journalin'!

Hi! You are so far along in your planning! I just wanted to add my two cents about having coworkers come without husbands/wives. I think that it is fine to not allow dates but if the couple is married then some people might find it rude if you exclude their spouse. I would just eliminate dates of those that aren't married/living together. Besides, some people may RSVP no, which will make more room for people. Good luck!

wow, i feel like i have been neglecting my journal. i kept going online and i read all the wonderfulthings people said but i haven't had the time to actualy sit down and get it all out. now that i am sick and unable to sleep it seems like the right time to catch up. i'll just have to spray the keyboard with lysol when im done! hahaha

hey kmsbride! keith and i drove to mira mesa to look at this jewelry store that has a ton of men's bands but they are closed on sat and sunday. i have never heard of a store that did that! so, we didn't get his ring. i know we still have plenty of time though!

theresa- thank you for stopping by. i was reflecting on what you said and i realized only ne of my friends is married from work. the rest are single or divorced so i'll have to ponder some more... wow, your wedding is so close, best wishes flying through all the last minute work!

futuremrsoneal- thanks for the pat on the back. i certainly need them! haha as far as mick goes i replied with a maybe. keith is not keen on going but i would like to...so, i may go alone or i may start twisting his arm now!!

bhur2be- i was thinking of you this week. i also spent the beginning of student teaching watching the teachers at carmel valley middle school setting up! keith lives in carmel valley so it was so convenient to his home. i helped in the science department with a fun young teacher with dark hair...i can't remember her name. when i left i sent a thank you to the office. i know not many people thought to do that and i wanted to stand out for possible future jobs there! it didn't work out there, i'm up in murrieta, but i did love that school!

hi maura!

i started my 1st day of classroom instruction at woodland park middle. there was a welcome sign 2005-2006 middle level cohort with some advice. are you the maura that signed "don't work full time!!!" with a flower?

i think i may have met the teacher you observed at CVMS. was she really petite?  and possibly hispanic?  did you even interview with the district before accepting the job you have now?

also i'm not sure if i asked you this already, but when you graduated, were you given two credentials so that you can teach elem but also high school science?

one last note, only 7 more months for us!!!!

Hi Maurapea -

Thanks for stopping in and reading my journal. I thought I'd return the thought and see what you've been up to. Wow! You sure are an organized bride!!! And your ideas are fabulous!!!

I especially like the fact that you are wearing silver flats. I'm short (5'2.5" on a good day), so I'll be wearing gold heals for the ceremony and waiting to change into my gold flats for the reception.

Did you ever find those bright-colored dresses for your flower girls? I found mine in fuschia by Sweet Beginnings. They come in a wide array of styles/colors, and are priced between $80 - $95 if you purchase through bridaldiscounters.com.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello. Keep us posted on anything new!

i can't remember if i put "don't work full time"...but probably because maura is not a common name! i think that was the same teacher you met. she was tan and petite. and no i didn't interview in san dieguito because they didn't offer me one!! they missed out haha!! i was only given one credential and now i am in the works of semi-studying for the cset in science-vomit! i think i will sign up for the nov 5th date..yuck, yuck, yuck

okay, so i think i will go on a crazy amount about the things i need to do soon....prepare yourself, heehee.

___flowergirl presents

so i found the line sweet beginnings and brides by susanti carries it. I love the idea of having the girls wear bright green and then having purple accents throughout the rest of their outfits. sweet beginnings has the color kiwi. i can't make jewelry for the girls yet since i don't know the neckline of the dresses.... i must drag my butt in there to see them soon

___find a hotel for night of!!!!!

so my sister's friend works for the rancho bernardo inn. they are within the same company as the scripps inn in la jolla. i am in a rut here. the rooms are fab but they want a 2 night min. so i was thinking sat/sun maybe. amber can get us a discount but i don't know if she can for the lovely room that i want which has a fireplace and looks onto the ocean!! i don't want to drive all the way from the el cortez to la jolla for a garden view! sorry if that seems snobby, it's just the way i feel. hmmm...

___have g help me make ceramic platter

well my roomie/bridesmaid is ubber talented. and i plan on having her help me make our wedding platter. i want her to write keith and maura april 1st 2006 in the middle of the plate. however she is moving to northern ca soon and i don't know if my plate idea will work. instead of paying $100ish for a platter to me done, i plan on buying one myself at clay and latte for $40 and having her make it. but... i need to go buy a little saucer and the pens and try to glaze it in my oven myself.....possibly i can take care of that today

oh, and i plan on picking up my veil from 200 dreams today!!! i know i will put it on and run around my house!!

i have more to say but i am running out of energy...i need more coffee and perhaps a cupcake!

Hi Maura!  I really enjoyed reading through your journal.  We're date twins, teacher twins, and it feels like more!  I was thinking about doing my RH at Filippi's on Friars, and I'm getting married in a Catholic Church (in Santee where I grew up, have known the priest for 18 years), and I live right by the Mission!  We're going to Disneyland after the honeymoon before I go back to school.

Congratulations on getting things done.  I feel like I've got a good start too, but I know there are so many things that are going to come up between now and the wedding.  I have report cards and parent conferences soon, plus trying to squeeze wedding stuff in on top of all that!  Winter Break is coming soon, so I will have to get a lot done during that time.  Maybe I should start journaling...something else to distract me from grading papers

Your lists are inspiring me, and I can't wait to read more of your progress.  Good luck!

Kristen

4 months to go!   How are you doing with everything?  Are you getting excited yet?

I've been taking a little break from actively planning, but it's always there in the back of my mind.  All I have left of the big stuff is invitations, cake, and transportation.

Are you counting down to Winter Break?  I am so checked out of work right now.  I'm definitely going to start journaling during vacation, if not before.  Hope all is going well!!

Hi Maura- I had to come check out your journal since I had the pleasure of meeting you at the GTG today.  (Plus...it's not tooooo long, so it was easy to catch up!  )

I too would love to see pics of your new kitties!  I love cats and when I moved cross country I gave my two away.    I miss them lots, and always stop to pet every random cat we walk by...which always prompts Tre to give me a ring worm lecture of some sort!

Anyway, it looks like you have a ton done and things are progressing nicely.  This is super late to post, but since I'm just now getting to your journal, your dress is really pretty!  I like the train in back!

Have a good week!  Kelly

and how great that you adopted kitties!  we have two of our own, Frank (Sinatra) and Gir, and they're pretty much our kids!   you must post a pic or two for us to see.

it was great to meet you Sunday; hopefully we can catch another gtg before your big day!

ps ... I love your license plate on your car!!!

It was so nice meeting you at the gtg. I’m so happy to hear that tre is home!!! Thank you for the compliment about my dress…it is hanging in my closet right now and when no one is home I love trying it on

Gwen-

I saw your picture on one of the makeup sites!!! You looked stunning…I haven’t decided on makeup yet so I might dig through your vendor report again.

Well, it is the end of my Christmas vacation and my thoughts have turned back to school! I am so impressed that you have made it through your first semester while planning a wedding!!! Any wedding planning help I can give, let me know!! LESS THAN 3 MONTHS TO GO!!!

Hey Maura,

Thanks for the info on Filippi's.  It reminded me to call them finally and book them, so that's done!  I went back to work this week, and it's tough!  I want to be on vacation for the next 3 months finishing my planning .  I promise I will order those invites by next week (I better, or I'm screwed!) - thanks for the virtual kick in the butt!  Good luck going back to school, and happy 2 months, 4 weeks!!!

so i went to a bead store in encinitas and loved all the pretty things there. i didn't even go in with the idea of making necklaces!!

when i went in there was a woman sitting at a table and she was making a necklace. so i started to shop nearby so I could kind of spy on her! haha finally i just said  "is that hard?!"

she laughed and said no that this was her first one and she had started today!! so i was hooked!

the people who work there are wonderful and were so willing to teach me and more importantly let me sit there and use their tools!!

i ended up buying my own the next time i went in but i didn't want to fork out cash for tools until i knew i could do it!!

in the pics all the shiny metal is a chain that i cut and i picked out clear beads so hopefully they can wear it again! the center stone is slightly purple which is what they are wearing

i felt so damn accomplished building 5 necklaces and earrings from scratch that i decided to try my own necklace...pics to follow!!

Hi MauraPea,

I just finished reading your journalLOVE the story of how you met. I really like the fact that more and more people are meeting in non-traditional ways. We aren't taught that when we are little.  And you have been together for 9 years, that's awesome!

We have lots in common; our wedding is also at the Mission and El Cortez.  And I read you almost went to Puerto Rico for your honeymoon, that's where I was born.

As I mentioned in my journal, I love your journal. When I first read your journal I skipped a beat, I felt I was so behind .  It really helped me get my to-do-list together.

And now the questions…..

1. Who are you selecting to play at the ceremony? I have yet to contact the musical director.  Who are diane, glen, and howard?

2. Is Paul decorating the church pews? Are you having Paul decorate the church at all? I know the first time I talked to him he didn't seem too much into decortating the church since it's so pretty but I want  flowers.   He said he has $250 allocated to the church.  I don't know what that means.  Just wondering what you are doing.

3.  Love the jewelry.  I'd love to know the name of the place.  Maybe I can go with some of my BM's and make our wedding jewelry.

thank you so much for the wonderful compliment  i tend to think that my journal doesn't do much good except to empty my head, haha so it's lovely to hear otherwise!!

we're using dianne, glen, and howard for our ceremony, they are the people who usually do the weddings at the mission. i met with them at the end of the summer and it was lovely. my mom and i went in with the plan of only hiring dianne (soprano) and howard (organist). however, we both loved the sound of diane and glen together...so we forked out $180 to each and totalled our music at $540, expensive, but they are lovely.

we aren't interested in flowers for the church since it's so stunning to begin with...i think brides who do decorate it usually put a spray on each side of the altar though.

I talked to Dianne today and I will be meeting her tomorrow at the Mission.  She will be performing at a wedding tomorrow and has asked me to come watch her.  I have to sneak in thru the Choir Loft so no ones sees me.  I don't want to be a Wedding Crasher

I am very excited!

Hi Maura,

I love your journal! I had lurked through it before and thought I posted, but apparently not! I love the pics of your babies! I have one that waits outside the shower until I'm done and then hops in usually before I can step out. freak. lol

We're getting married at the Mission too! We decided to go with just the organist, enjoyed the sound of Dianne and Glen together but just couldn't bring ourselves to fork out the $$ for all 3. So we just booked Howard.   That will be really nice with all 3 of them!

We're sneaking into a wedding next Saturday that our Monsignor Prendergast is doing at the Mission.  I'm sure it'll all make more sense after that, huh?  I had planned on putting flowers on either side of the altar, but the church coordinator said flowers really weren't necessary and after reading your journal, I'm going to talk to FI about skipping the in church flowers. You are right, the church is beautiful on its own. bonus!

Your wedding is coming up so quickly! I hope you had a great time at your shower!

Hi Maura!
Great list! The shopping and make up trials sound like the most fun. Final payments...getting close! woohoo!  I answered your question in my journal, but know you are busy, so in case you don't check it again...We are having our MOH and Best Man kneeling next to us, then the 4 bridesmaids and 2 flowergirls in the front row, and the groomsmen in the front row on the other side. Our parents/families will be in the 2nd row. :)  I hope that helps.

The TP dresses are a riot. Thank you for sharing your pictures, looks like you guys had fun and I love the top you were wearing!  Are you guys going to have another eucharistic minister besides your priest?  i noticed they did at the wedding we attended there last weekend and we're pondering the idea.
