thought i'd edit this to add more of me and FH's history...

me and FH met at my last job. he was working swings, i was interning during the day, so we didn't get to see much of each other.
In may 2000, my parents came up for my college graduation. my dad is an avid golfer so he asked if i knew anyone that wanted to golf with him. so i went to work and told my coworkers and FH goes, 'i'll go!'.
a couple days later, i went up to FH and said, 'so how was it' just to make conversation. and he replied, 'your dad cheats!'  dude! i was sooo angry!!!   i didn't know at the time though that he was kidding, since i didn't know him very well. hahaha!  silly FH.

a couple of months later, me and my roommates had a housewarming party and one of my coworkers invited FH. i um, drank a bit too much that night and don't remember a whole lot, but i do know i had a great time! but the following monday, FH wrote an email to me, saying 'thanks for inviting me to your party.' and i thought that was sooo nice. i mean, who does that nowadays?

so after that we started hanging out. it kinda sucked, i had a boyfriend at the time but i told myself if i, god willing, was ever blessed with the opportunity to be with FH, i would want it to be for a very very long time. so i never cheated with FH while i was still in the other relationship, because i didn't want to screw things up. things were going pretty bad between me and the ex anyway (it was a long distance relationship) and eventually we broke up.  me and FH started dating soon after but it took me about 6 months before i started calling him my boyfriend. i was so scared!   i knew i wanted him to be 'the one' and had to make extra sure! hehe.

we've been together for a little over 3 yrs. halfway through our relationship, i moved down to SD from the bay area for a new job. we were apart for 8 months, but i know that is nothing compared to some of you!  FH made such a huge sacrifice to move down here. he's been up in SF for 30+ yrs  and he's such a city boy and he left all that to be with me!!! awww i love him.

here is the email i sent out to our friends and family entitled
"the partial taming of the shrew"

me and bernie just got back from a 10 day trip to hawaii. we went to visit my family and attended one of my best friend (maria's) wedding which was absolutely beautiful. after the wedding, we left for the big island and spent a couple of days there.

last wednesday was my birthday and we were going to have dinner at this french restaurant but it was booked. then i booked a reservation at this nice resort but after a bike tour that day and 4wheelin to a deserted beach, i was pretty tired. so we just ended up walking to a brewery by our hotel.

so after dinner we walked around the downtown kona area and along the beachfront properties. i had to have shave ice and ended up overindulging (warning: if you ever go to kona, don't get the JUMBO sized shave ice from the scandanavian shave ice place!!!) and kept asking bernie if we could go back to the hotel. but he wanted to walk around some more.  =(

bernie: let's go to that pier over there
me: noooooo i'm sooo fuuuuuuuull
bernie: how about that church?
me: sigh. ok

so we walked in front of the church and looked at the lighted statue and flowery display and i was so ready to go back to the hotel but bernie wanted to linger, wtf!!! so then we finally walked towards the hotel and it started raining so we kinda stopped and hung out then bernie said, 'i got you a birthday present!'

and he pulled a ring box out of his pocket.

so he asked and of course i said yes but when we got back to the hotel, i freaked out and told him i'm not sure if i was ready and gave him the ring back but the next morning when i woke up i changed my mind back and said of course i wanted to marry him still but i didn't wanna call it an engagement. (i know... i'm so difficult)

some alternatives: betrothed or 'in waiting' or how tilda said, a bride to be.

i was somewhat expecting the proposal to happen sooner or later since bernie moved down to san diego last year and we recently bought a place... plus bernie is almost over the hill and probably wants some babies, hehe. but i didnt' think it was gonna happen this soon since i had talked so much smack about getting married, but it'll be awhile before the wedding.  i think i'm over the scary part though, now i'm excited =)

of course when we got back, i had to go out and buy a wedding book. after much amazon.com research, i finally settled on Bridal Bargains. it has lots of good info. i also bought a little notebook too to make notes and do all my fancy schmancy calculations. yay i love doing vendor and wedding research on the internet. it's so much fun!

good thing a coworker tipped me to checking out mt. woodson, otherwise i never woulda known about it. we checked it out right away and loved it. i wanted to check out other venues though JUST IN CASE. so i went to the la jolla sealodge and also the la jolla sea cove and suites. but we settled on mt. woodson because susan is just SO nice, FH loves to golf, and because it's a castle, which i like since i'm somewhat of a self proclaimed princess, hehe.  so it works out. we booked it today for April fools day, 2006.  i know i am totally premature on my planning... but thank goodness these bridal forums make it easier!

me and my sister decided to go look at wedding dresses yesterday. we were originally going to go to the fashion district in LA but ended up just going to alfred angelo's in long beach (since we were already in the area) and tried on 4 dresses there.  it was a lot of fun!  esp when the saleslady put the veil and tiara on my head .  my sister almost started crying, hehe.
there was a joann's fabric store next door so we went there so i could check out the veil kits. man, they were so cheap! heh, i know where i'm getting my veil now!

also, B's brother in law (who is a minister or paster, one of them) is going to be marrying us and he finally emailed me back on pre-marriage counseling, etc. he recommended this book to go through and complete, which i saw on amazon.com and it looked kinda old school and not very fun to go through. but i'll check it out at the bookstore and see how that goes.

since it was a slow day at work, i thought i'd shoot a couple emails off to the list of potential florists i had in mind. this is what i told them i needed:

1 medium bride bouquet

1 small maid of honor bouquet

2 boutineers for groom and best man

rose petals for the aisle

flowers for the cake

not sure what we are using for centerpieces, but probably not one made of all flowers. also we may just get leis from hawaii (my parents live there) for our parents.

in non-related wedding stuff, i am currently looking for a new (used) car since my car got stolen last month and my rental is about to run out.  i had a 95 civic before and it was a great car. i was looking into a jetta but after reading a bunch of car forums, i'm not so sure. it would be kinda boring to get another civic though huh?  but hondas are such great cars!!!  sigh, i loved my car. anyway, on to more car research...

yikes i noticed on oct 1st that we are getting married in less than 1.5 yrs! eeeeek!  well, i went to SF this past weekend and got to stop by this wonderful stationery store called Paper Source. omg it's so cute. i found what i want our invites to look like and B said he was cool with it. i had to talk myself out of buying them because i know i should wait a couple of months and make sure i don't change my mind about the color scheme and design. but it was exciting see them in person after seeing them on their website, http://www.paper-source.com - www.paper-source.com

i also got our wedding workbooks in the mail. i was flipping through them and already started getting annoyed because of the questions that they ask and it was just very... biblical.    so we'll see how that goes...

hehe, still have not started the wedding workbook. will put that on the 'to-do' list before the end of the year. i did have my first florist meeting about a week ago. i felt so unprepared =(  BUT, joanne was nice enough to give me a box full of bridal magazines (THANKS JOANNE!) so now i have a better idea.  so this weekend i have two more florist meetings.
i've also been working on our wedding website, that's been pretty fun. i love photoshop!
today at work i found a bunch of sound files to send to my brother and sister so they can get a better idea of my wedding song. i want them to perform it at our wedding. my brother plays guitar and sings and my sister sings also. they are such a talented bunch. me and B totally love that song 'the way you look tonight' which i just found out today is fricken OLD SCHOOL. it was written in 1936.  hehe, and i thought frank sinatra wrote it.  i love how they sing it in 'my best friend's wedding' at the end. the slut debutante bridesmaids. it's so beautiful!  everytime i flip through bridal mags, i hear it going through my head and i get all worked up. i'm such a nut.

this weekend i met with two more florists. wow, meetings are a lot shorter now that i have an idea on what i want. at first i wanted autumn or sunset colors but now i've changed my mind to a sage green and lighter orange color with dark red as an accent. i found a pic of really nice flowers in this bridal magazine. i met with mindy from florabella on friday and she told me they were parrot tulips. omg, so pretty. it incorporates all those colors!!! she was also very nice, so now i'm just waiting for my price quote.
i've also been looking at flower books. dahlias, daisies, and chrysanthemums are also very pretty. i've got my 4th florist meeting on wednesday so i'll ask her what she thinks.

dude i am so stoked!

on oct 25, after reading the south beach diet book, i decided to do a modification of the diet. now i only eat carbs during the day, none at night. also, more veggies because i eat way too much fruit. also, whole grains (like whole wheat pasta) instead of refined carbs. one night a week i allow myself to cheat. i work nights and it is a bit harder to not eat carbs at night when i'm off.

this past weekend i bought a scale. and i told B that i was only allowed to weigh myself on Wednesdays, which we nicknamed 'weigh-in wednesday'. well today i couldn't help it, i weighed myself. and i lost a couple of lbs! yay!  AND i tried on my 'skinny' jeans and black clubbing pants and they fit me again. i didn't have to fight my way into the jeans like i normally do and suck in my stomach when i try to zip up. the black clubbing pants are a little snug, like i wouldn't feel comfortable bending over to freak someone in fear of the pants splitting at the seams.   hehe. getting there though!

Sweet! Lol...I haven't read the South Beach Diet Book, but I've been trying to get myself to eat healthier and get back in shape! Unfortunately, today's food was comprised of cinnamon donut holes, lots of coffee, pizza, french fries, and cherry 7up. But your healthy eating is motivating me! Good luck with all of your plans, and let me know how your invitation making goes! I'm making my invites and save the dates, and I love hearing how everyone else is doing! G'luck!!

Great invitation website! I love the stuff they have, just don't know if I want to make them all myself. My parents are inviting way to many people, LOL.

I like the one that you chose too! It will go great with your color scheme.

today i met with linda from floral poetry at this cute little stationary boutique called TruSo in Del Mar.  they even offer you tea and cookies, how cute is that.
linda was so nice! and so organized! she even had a cute little portfolio thing typed out with all these suggestions and a little about their company and what was included in their estimates. her work is gorgeous. i was blown away. i am looking forward to getting that proposal!

4 more florists to go and i'm done... hope to get that all finalized before the end of the year.

FH and i went to san francisco this past weekend for his brother's wedding. i was so impressed by how much the bride and groom DIDN'T have to do the day before their wedding because they had taken care of it the previous week. all the wedding talk though had me worked up and i ended up having another wedding nightmare the day before the wedding. this time i had a dream that i showed up to my wedding in the wrong dress. it was like bright red. yikes! how dumb am i in my dreams? obviously dumb enough to not look in the mirror .  wow that was crazy though.
so the rehearsal was on friday night. it was very chaotic. it wasn't even my wedding and i was stressing out.  the quote of the night was from the bride, 'i don't know where people are supposed to stand, i've never planned a fricken wedding before!!!!'

oh dear god. i am so getting a wedding coordinator!!!  she did have one but hers was stuck in traffic and didn't get there until the last 15 minutes of the rehearsal which by that time, was pointless.  poor bride.

the RD was cool though. we went to this mexican restaurant and the food was good. i was very good and did not eat any chips, even though people kept offering me them because i told them i wasn't gonna have any. bastards.

so on saturday was the actual wedding. it was a full catholic mass ceremony. i felt so bad for the bride because when it was her turn to walk in, she was accompanied by her father and her SCREAMING toddler!  omg!  i woulda totally died! you could tell she was pissed off. shoot, i would be too. other than that, it was nice. there were some small little snafus but none as bad as that entrance.

FH went with the bridal party since he was one of two best men. i took his parents over to the reception and hung out with FH's sister, husband, and 3 kids. i was very impressed by the decoration of the reception hall.  very pretty. i also liked the bridal party flowers. the food was really good too. i didn't eat any carbs but i sure as hell ate a lot of everything else. oops!  hehe.

well my favorite part of the evening was FH's best man speech. it was kinda funny because there were two best men, 1 maid of honor and 1 matron of honor. so the dj said they were gonna do their toasts, boy girl, boy girl. now when i think of 'toast' at a wedding, i automatically think of toast AND speech. apparently, not FH. so he went first and did his toast which was really short, which i wasn't too surprised over because he likes to keep things simple. but then everyone went after him and there were the speeches/toast. so then FH ran up to the dj and told him that he thought they were different and wanted to do his real speech!

omg. 10 seconds into his speech and i was already crying. it was real touching and i am tearing up now just thinking about it. basically he was saying how when his brother was born, he was really excited about having a younger brother (they are 7 yrs apart). and how they always played together. but then as they got older, they grew apart and weren't even brothers anymore. it was like they were strangers. but then when his brother met his future bride, him and FH started getting close again. it was really the cutest thing. FH's brother got up from the head table and ran to FH and they were all hugging and crying then FH's sister ran up there too. it truly was a kodak moment.

we danced a lot that night too. that was fun. it was cute because FH also danced with his mom, the cha cha. it was nice seeing the whole family interact with each other. it made me real happy and warm inside.

what got me was that the bride and groom got pretty drunk but by the end of the night seemed ok, but not totally sober. the groom said to me, 'man i am sooo tired!' i mean he seriously looked about ready to pass out. whoa, what about the whole wedding night consumation thing!  so much pressure for one day! anyway i had a great time. and FH looked very handsome in his tux!!!

yesterday i went back to the paper souce in the city and got my envelopes. i was also going to buy the flat cards but am holding off on them. i just had to get the envelopes though. they are so cute!!!

well yesterday was weigh-in wednesday. and i am still the same weight as the previous wednesday. i believe that is due to the fact that i ate an incredible amount of food this past weekend, hehe.  no worries, i've already hopped back on the wagon. even if i lose a 1/2 lb by next wednesday i'll be happy.  slowly but surely, that's what i keep telling myself.

i've become a bit of a trader joe's junkie ever since i started this whole south beach modification.  i admit, there are very good for some things. like fat free milk with no rBST hormone. only $1.49 a half gallon. usually i buy my half gallon fat free milk WITH rBST hormone at vons for $2.39    another thing they are good for is hot and cold cereals, and whole grain breads.  heh i went there the other day and was looking at the flourless breads and this little old lady says to me, 'how in the world do they get flourless bread?' and i said, 'beats me, but i think i'll try it!' and she goes, 'well if you are, then i guess i will too.'     their whole wheat pastas too are very nicely priced (99 cents!). i was so excited about my finds that i told my friend mike about them because he called while i was there. so now he wants me to take him grocery shopping next week so that's what i plan on doing tuesday before work. we're gonna go to the hillcrest whole foods and trader joe's. i've never been to those ones so i'm a bit excited. i'm such a food junkie   i told him though that with food, you totally have to pick your battles. like is it really worth it to drive 15min out of your way to save less than a dollar on milk?  well i can always go during my lunch break at work since TJ's is closer. that wouldn't be so bad.  but i bought enough milk and bread (and stuck it in the freezer) from TJ's to last another month so it's not like i am going every week. so yeah i think it's ok. yay for good food!

Aww, your FI toast sounded so sweet! Too bad for the bride's screaming toddler! She'll have something to tease her kid about when she gets older though! Yay for Trader Joes! I don't shop there that often, but when I do I really enjoy it. The one here in Ann Arbor is way better than the one in La Jolla. You don't have to fight crazy car traffic!!

this saturday i am meeting with linda from something borrowed. i'm very excited about that. i love hearing all the great reviews about her.  tmr, working OT for that great holiday pay (cha-ching!) then going to my cousin's house for the turkey day feast.  happy thanksgiving everyone!

happy back to work monday  !!!

i had a pretty good weekend. i ate a lot of course, but it was also nice because i got to hang out with people that i hadn't hung out with in awhile. namely, two of my ex roommates, one of my friends from high school, and two of my friends from work. it was nice.

FH went to LA for the weekend for a golf tournament so i took advantage and ran a bunch of errands. i first met up with something borrowed on Saturday morning. they were so sweet! they even made me a sample bouquet with the colors i want.

i even got the quote the next day!!!  they are so awesome. i got two more florists to meet with this weekend so hopefully i will have my decision by the end of the year.

then i was on a mission for xmas card stuff. i tried going to kelly paper in la mesa. i'm so dumb; i almost always call places to make sure they are open but this time they weren't. oh well. at least it was on my way.

i then went to the paperie downtown. that's a cute little store. i thought their envelopes and such were a bit pricey, but still very nice. man i wish we had a paper source down here

then i met up with my gay ex roommate for lunch. omg he is so funny! we started talking about my new favorite show, desperate housewives, and right when i asked if he liked it, we both started shrieking like little school girls. it was the funniest thing. i love that show!!!

then it was off to find more paper stores. xpedx was also closed on aero drive. then i went to a scrapbooking store in poway. they had some good stuff. but i ended up buying all my stuff over at making memories in mira mesa. they have a great selection of colored papers that i ended up cutting for our xmas invites. i was even able to use their paper cutter! so while i was doing that, this lady to the left of me was putting something through a machine and i saw all these little shapes and i was like thinking to myself, 'oooh what is that?' hehe, you hardcore scrapbooking people are probably laughing at me now...

so last wednesday, i sent a bunch of emails to some photographers and today when i checked, there were a flurry responses! oh yes, come to me, dear wedding vendor responses. come to me!  i love vendors that respond!

awww today i hopped on the scale and i've gained a 1/2 lb since last wednesday. damn turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, and whatever hell else i ate that contributed to that 1/2 lb    well i shoulda seen that one coming with thanksgiving and all. not to worry! i will not let that get me down!

hmm what else. my goodness, i have 3 vendor appts this friday!  first boucher, then nancy stevens, then greenwell. also i've been doing some thinking about pre-marital counseling. so i had already bought this book that FH's brother in law SUGGESTED we go through, since he is officiating. but i was going through it, and wasn't really digging some of the questions they asked. it made lots of references to the bible and it just kinda made me uncomfortable. FH is catholic and i was raised catholic but for some reason, more recently have not really dug it, but i still believe in God. plus i would totally feel bad about BS'ing some of the answers to those questions. it would make me feel fake and how bad is that to lie to a pastor/minister? i'd be going straight to hell!    so luckily, my health insurance covers counseling so i called up a bunch of approved dr's yesterday and now we have a pre-marital counseling appt for next friday. the lady sounded so nice too and she is super close to both of our works. i am really looking forward to it.

sigh, thank god it's thursday, which is really my 'friday'. woohoo!  something borrowed was nice enough to scan the photo that inspired me to want orangey-reddish with spring green parrot tulips. it is a bit brighter in person but here it is. i never thought i liked tulips but after seeing these, i said, 'i gotta have them!'

i for some reason have been entertaining the idea with wearing red shoes with my wedding dress. and i like the whole layered look for dresses. and the ruffle part on the strapless dress at the top. so since it's been a slow night at work, i drew this in photoshop. body is not to scale, ie i am not that big on top (i wish)

i met with linda rendon (the florist) today and she is super sweet and her prices, man oh man . super fantastic!!!  i am most likely going to book her for our wedding, just waiting for the official quote. she is my last florist to meet with, woohoo!

i have one more photographer to meet with, susan yee. i am hoping to meet with her at the end of january when she moves down. i am also considering boucher and jennifer thomas, both really nice ladies. me and FH started our premarital counseling, which has been very interesting and helpful. i think we should be done by january. not sure which vendor i will tackle next. maybe dj's?  cake's?  videographers (for raw footage only)? i am toiling with the idea of a dessert station or a ice cream sundae bar, yuuuuuuuuum.

i was also telling one of my coworkers how i wanted to make my own invites and he's all, 'have you figured in the price of ink cartridges?' i never knew how expensive they are. grrrrrr!!! so we'll see about that.

this christmas was probably one of the most different xmas's i've ever had. for one, it was me and FH's first xmas in our new home (condo). and one of our good friends from SF came to stay with us, which made for a very entertaining and fun weekend.  also, this was my first time ever buying lamb at the store. very pricey but so worth it for a memorable xmas dinner.
heh, i also drank a lot on xmas eve and had a humongoid hangover the next day  =(   but we went to mission beach and ate at cane's, that was really nice. i love san diego!
so yesterday i got my quote from linda rendon. my deposit will be in the mail by the end of the week!

i've been MIA for awhile. but happy new year's everyone!

as for wedding plans, i have booked linda rendon as my florist. i'm waiting for susan (ocean tsunami photography) to send me a contract to sign. woohoo! i've met with a bunch of videographers. right now we are just interested in raw data and will have a friend edit.  although now i am reconsidering because...

i decided recently that i want to go back to school to get my teaching credential!  yay! i'm so excited!  yesterday i checked out SDSU and pt loma nazarene. on friday i will be going to CSU san marcos.  i want to teach math for middle school kids. so now it's all about paying for education and the wedding and weighing what's more important.   over the holidays i read this book called 'bride in overdrive'. it was an autobiography of a girl that got married and omg, talk about BRIDEZILLA.  it was very funny though and put a lot of things in perspective.

so back to wedding planning, i'm not sure what i'm going to tackle next. oh yeah, i also emailed lorraine kimball about possibly making a dress for me. i'm waiting for her to get back to me. perhaps cake?  mmmm.... CAKE.

yay i'm back after my 1st semester back in school! i completed a couple of prereq's for my teaching credential, sweet! i got accepted into CSU San Marcos for their middle level cohort. i am sooo excited to start school again in august!!!

my sister got married a couple of weeks ago. it was a super small wedding, just her FI's family and mine + my FI, so total people was 10. it really put a lot of things into perspective for me, as in what was important and what not. me and FI were the makeshift photographers, videographers, wedding coordinator, florist. it was so funny!  she had this flower arrangement sent to the hotel and it was HUUUUUGE! it looked like something you would send to your mom on mother's day or something. i took one look at it and told her that she could not walk down the 'aisle' like that. so me and FI took the bouquet into the bathroom, took out all the ferns, baby's breath, stray looking flowers and chopped it down to a good hand bouquet size and just wrapped it up with the ribbon. it looked pretty damn good!!!

and i had sooo much fun taking b/w pictures. i hadn't used my old SLR camera since last year. i'll try and post some of them since we had them put on CD.

here's one of her getting ready, taken from our digital point and shoot camera.

my parents came to visit last week and i tried on a couple of wedding dresses. at first i wanted something informal but after going to a Nite on the Town in UTC and trying on a Maggie Sottero... whoa. I don't think dress shopping will ever be the same!

i have to keep telling myself though that i have to keep grounded and i think back to my sister's 10 people wedding, which was just as beautiful as some of the 50+ people weddings that i have been to.

and now (ah hem) i should be studying for my math cset test!  good night all

ps. i have lost a total of 10 lbs on my modified south beach diet! time to tone!

i compiled my budget in excel.
i set up appts with my ceremony/reception coordinator to go over the contract and to do tastings and put a deposit down for my caterer.
i made up a rough timeline of the wedding.

this friday we are meeting with the baker and caterer! i timed it so we meet with caterer for lunch, then baker right after!

so last week, FH decided to walk to the bakery (edelweiss) by our house to schedule the tasting. i was at home, trying to do my homework, and then he called.

me: hello?
FH: i think you should call the bakery. they are asking me lots of questions that i don't know the answer to.
me: haha, ok.

so i called the bakery and spoke to stacy, really nice lady. she wanted to know what time the reception would start, how many guests, etc. poor FH. he meant well.

oh yeah i forgot. we went to a lunch wedding reception this past sunday in long beach. it was held at the renaissance hotel in downtown. the bride and groom got married in hawaii in april. there were a ton of people there, 470. i thought the food was pretty good but hands down, my favorite was the dessert buffet!!!  they had fruit tarts (yay!), chocolate mousse tarts, chocolate cake, carrot cake, cheesecake. i had a belly-ake by the end of the reception but boy was i happy!!!

i have been trying to decide where i want my bachelorette party and when. at first i thought vegas, then i thought, no too crazy and smokey. then i thought palm springs. but then it was too cumbersome for my friends to get there (most of them live in the bay area).

so now i have stuck to vegas. might as well go out with one big bang damnit!  so i booked it for october while the weather is still warm and we can hang out by the pool. so october 28-30! we're staying at theHotel at mandalay bay. flights on southwest- booked! sweet!!!

AND i won my dress off of ebay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

on friday afternoon, me and FI were chillin at home when we hear a "ka-thunk!" on the doorstep.

we open the door and there is a white box sitting there and FI goes, "i hope that's not your wedding dress." but lo and behold, it was!  i tried it on and i won't have to get major alterations like i thought in the beginning. i bought a garment bag and put the dress in there, and then wrapped the bag in a bedsheet and now it sits in the spare bedroom. i've tried it on again yesterday, hehe!

also, cake tasting went well on friday at edelweiss. lynn was super nice and i'm leaning towards the chocolate cake with mocha filling, then another layer of chocolate with hazelnut filling. we are also going to get a cheesecake and mini fruit tarts to serve. i picked up two sample cakes (free!) from VG's donuts this morning on my 'lunch break'. they were good, albeit a little dry, so most likely, we will pick edelweiss.

i also spoke to my sister today and we decided the moms would look nice in a cream color since my dress is ivory and FI's barong is the same color (that was totally unplanned btw!).  don't know about the dad's yet. maybe they can just wear whatever.

yesterday i went to my 2nd cousin's bridal shower. she's getting married next month at AKC! she was all telling me how she's a little worried since she is having an adult reception and i'm the only one of my first cousins that has replied so far, but i'm one of the few that don't have kids. so i wonder if they will come or not?  i'm kind of using her wedding as a gauge to see how many go from our family since mine will have the same setup, saturday lunch time-ish, and adult only reception.

i had a good time though. they had a mexican restaurant come out to cater and i sampled a little bit of everything, and there was lots of dessert! yummy! plus i got to hang out with my family and they asked me a ton of wedding questions, which i don't mind talking about at all!

speaking of which, i had school orientation on friday and i met another girl in my program that is getting married in june!  so i'm all excited that i have someone else to talk about it with while we're eagerly becoming teachers. AND i met another girl at work that is getting married in october. but she's the only person i have met that has a sapphire ring, like me. i thought that was kinda neat.

tonight we meet with ellis at yokozuna's for the catering tasting. oooh i can't wait. more food!!!

on another note, i just bought a lunch bag. i start school tomorrow and will have another one to use in the meantime. but i will be stylin profilin when the new one arrives! woohoo!  it's fully insulated and everything! big enough to hold my sammich, salad, and multiple array of fruits and veggies !!!  doesn't it just scream: fill me with lots of good food!!!

where oh where is my cute lunch bag?

i called the website and they said it should arrive by this weekend! that would be awesome. me and Bernie are going to the summer pops concert on sunday and i can use it then. burt bacharach is performing!!! i told one of my friends that and he's like, 'Um rose, you are 27, not 67". but dude! he has written so many cool songs. practically all of "my best friend's wedding" soundtrack is all the mastermind of burt bacharach. how can you not love "wishin and hopin, and plannin and dreamin.. !"?
to prepare myself, i have been listening to the soundtrack in my car!

i've decided to make a really nice picnic dinner for Bernie because he was really supportive of me over the summer while i was working full time, taking two summer classes, and studying for the CSET Math exam. being the overachiever that i am, i got A's in both classes and passed the exam!

my favorite two obsessions now (besides school and the wedding) is neat lunch things and ebay. i was able to score some really cute cloth napkins on ebay. i feel bad throwing away so many napkins at home and school. time to hug more trees, hehe.  AND i also scored a cute picnic blanket that folds into a bag on ebay (originally from target). perfect for sunday!!!

and for school, i started on monday. it is so exciting! i'm over at carmel valley middle school, observing the teachers preparing for the 1st day of school (this tuesday). it's really neat seeing the collaboration between everyone... i so can't wait to be a teacher. i even met one teacher that got married over the summer at karl strauss in sorrento valley. she said to me "gosh it's so expensive but the second you walk into your wedding, you know it is all worth it!" THAT'S WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR!!!

sigh. so i didn't get to meet with ellis last weekend because he wasn't feeling good. so i need to reschedule. i'm meeting with danny mejia (DJ) this saturday. oh yeah and duh! i put a deposit down for my cake at edelweiss bakery. mmm i can taste it already, chocolate with mocha and another layer of chocolate and irish creme.

hmm what else? just waiting to leave work. it's so painfully slow and boring here. today me and one of my coworkers went for a run. it was short, only 2.6 miles but going up a hill for about half an mile was not an easy feat. whew! but i made it! i felt so good when we were done because i haven't been able to work out this week. tmr i think i'll hit yoga class and hopefully i'll get to run on saturday again with one of my girlfriends.

oh and the GTG on monday! totally excited about that. can't wait to meet other BI brides!!!

We went to summer pops last Friday and saw the most amazing jazz quartet (Dave Brubeck Quartet) backed by the SD symphony.  It was so much fun!  A word of caution- we went to the wrong location b/c we had both gone in years past @ the Navy Pier... it's actually now @ South Embarcadero behind the Convention Center.  We didn't even bother to look @ the tickets b/c we thought we *knew* where we were going, so we ended up paying for parking twice   But, it was so fun being out under the stars enjoying wonderful music.  Don't forget to bring a blanket- it does get a little chilly once the sun goes down!  Have fun!

BTW- love the lunch bag, it's so cute!  And good luck w/ the student teaching.  I have a student teacher this year (I teach Economics/Amer Govt) and so far I think it's been a positive experience for both of us.  I'm sure you'll learn a lot and gain a great deal of confidence in your teaching abilities as a result of it!

yaaaaaay i got my lunch bag in the mail on friday! i used it friday night when we went to the zoo and was happily snacking away as we looked at pandas, apes, and hippos. and yes i obeyed the signs and didn't throw the monkeys my leftovers. although i was extremely tempted!

yesterday i brought it with me too since i was gone from the house all day. man was it fricken hot. i met with dj danny mejia and gave him a deposit. woohoo! dj, done!  then i went shopping for new school clothes since we can't wear jeans and t-shirts, which are my clothes of choice =(  i just left a vm with ellis/yokozuna's to reschedule our tasting.

oh and i'm scoping out seamstresses in my area. it's a race to see who will have the opportunity to alter my wedding dress! i have a bunch of skirts to be taken in on the sides since i lost weight (yay!) so i decided to go to a bunch and see who does the best job for decent prices. i dropped one off at the cleaners by my house, arya? i think it is called. then some at this fricken old school shoe cobbler place where they also do alterations. but i just found out that they are closing next month because they are retiring.  i mean this place is so old school, that they have an old school cash register where the numbers pop up, not like the digital displays we have now. seriously, it still goes "cha ching!".  hahaha!  when i get more time, i'll drop the remaining lot to ann's alterations on miramar. another bonus: more school clothes for me that i didn't even have to shop for!

Glad to hear you booked Dan.  He will do a real good job for you.  Just be sure that if you have a list of "must plays", you give your coordinator a copy of the list.  He has a lot to do and may forget a song or two and if you have someone checking on things, this will help everyone.

sdwsmom, thanks!  yeah he mentioned that because of you, he's gotten a lot of business from the boards. gotta love the power of BI!

last night's GTG was so much fun!  thanks to all the girls that came out!  we talked about weddings of course, work, living in san diego, etc. when we took the pic at the end, the waitress was like, "wait, so you guys just all met each other? and you're ALL getting married?" it was so funny. i hope we can all meet up again. and i wouldn't mind planning a brunch GTG also for the girls that can't make it to happy hour.

and an extra special good luck to lana this saturday! can't wait to see pics of those flowers, hehe!

last night me and bernie went to Yokozuna's in chula vista (i told him that it was going to cost us 6 bucks in gas round trip from our house - eek!) for the caterer tasting.

ellis was super cool, as always and it was fun and laid back eating all the food and listening to him talk. we were able to negotiate a nice price too! so here is yokozuna's lunch menu:

appetizers
veggie lumpia w/ sweet thai chili sauce
chicken kelaguin with tortilla chips
california sushi roll

lunch buffet
chinese pake salad with miso dressing
kalua pig (without cabbage!!! yes!!!)
grilled teriyaki chicken
red rice
vegetable yakisoba noodles

drinks
water pitchers on tables
citus pineapple cooler
kona blend coffee
(alcoholic drinks provided by mt. woodson)

and btw i am not a coffee drinker but i tried their coffee and it was actually pretty good.

i'm so stoked, what else do i l have left?
-make reservations for a tent, just in case of april showers
-place for hair/makeup
-veil
-accessories (shoes, jewelry)
-bernie's ring
-playlist
-attendant gifts (all two of them!)
-ceremony write up
-invites
-what to do about the blasted centerpieces
-cardbox (i saw some neat hatboxes at marshalls)
-setup of ceremony/reception
-transportation for us after wedding
-seamstress for my dress and possibly bernie's barong
-registry
-check out la jolla hotels for oot guests

still debating on:
-linen rental
-babysitting service

speaking of which, we went for an after dinner walk the other night and found this new soy ice cream at vons. i was totally skeptical, but decided to try it since it was on sale. man it was sooo good. it was like chocolate sorbet. we got the chocolate brownie flavor. i swear, in about 5 years, i am going to be vegan by the rate of tree hugging that i'm doing

Those shoes are cute and perfect for teaching!  I just bought a comfy pair from DSW last Monday, sorta similar.  Mind if I ask how much those were???

In regards to soy ice cream, have you ever had Soy Delicious?  I have a friend who's been vegan for years, and that's one of her favorites.  Oh, and Tofutti Cuties- I love the name, and they're yummy too

i have been mia forever. but i'm getting stuff done!
today i reserved our bentley from Simply Elegant Limo. I thought it was a bit pricey but I couldn't find any other place in san diego that did antique car rentals.  i even called other limo places and asked who they suggested and they all said the same thing. Simply Elegant. It's a monopoly, i tell you. so we are getting the 1956 bentley.

also i have been working on invites. it was kind of a pain in the . and after scanning it to upload to BI, i noticed it is a little off center. oh well!!! but i had fun working and designing them. i was in san francisco and went to so many kinko's and they were all too busy to help me. wtf? so we went to the one by paper source in the  marina district and the dude was so nice. i made all these color copies and he didn't charge me at all! i was like, "what? no way! you can't do that!" i almost cried. so we got him a jamba juice gift card instead.

so here they are! our invites, rsvp card and the map to mt. woodson. i was too lazy to scan the back with the actual directions. also the rsvp and map card came out a funny color, they are actually more yellow.

i made our hotel blocks at holiday inn express and quality suites in mira mesa since it is close to our house, and halfway between mt. woodson and downtown. the lady i've been dealing with isn't all that great and just today i received this email from FI's sister in law:

I think you guys may have screwed up.  I'm trying to make hotel reservations and it they are telling me that you only blocked off March 31st - April 1st at Holiday in Express and only March 31st - April 2nd is blocked off at Quality Suites.   This doesn't make sense.

i don't know, does that seem kinda rude? "i think you guys screwed up"? damnit, i didn't screw up, the hotel person did. sheesh. anyway i left a mesage for the hotel director of sales and hopefully he will call me back to straighten this out. the person at the front desk suggested i talk to him instead of the usual person i've been dealing with.  grr, grr, grrrr!!!

on a happy note, we are going to do a wedding quilt. i got the idea from this website http://www.allcrafts.net/myweddingquilt.htm - http://www.allcrafts.net/myweddingquilt.htm  and found some quilters online. i received a bunch of quotes and have decided to go with Toni from http://mothersuniquedesigns.com - http://mothersuniquedesigns.com . She is an absolute sweetheart and so responsive to my emails! i love it!

also i saw this book when we were in SF and ended up buying it the other day. i saw so many inspiring pictures and i just love looking through it. i'm getting so excited about the wedding. just yesterday i finished up the ceremony wording. woohoo!

oh yes and i also bought my shoes from dsw!!!

hey ilaust! thanks for stopping by!

i got a bunch of wedding stuff done this weekend. let's see...

1. cake server/cutter from marshall's - 7 bucks!
2. finished the invitations for the relatives. sending them out tmr on my way to school!
3. worked on a rough draft of our ceremony/reception layout.
4. signed a contract and booked natalie bohlin for my makeup/hair
5. i found the table holders i want to use. i'll probably order them mid feb.

6. ordered bamboo cups from coconutking.com. i'm going to try putting 3 or 5 of them together then filling them with astromerias, for a possible DIY and inexpensive centerpiece.

i got up early this morning and decided to pass by the post office to drop off the first half of our invites. i was going to just drop them in the mailboxes but when i pulled into the parking lot, there were only two cars there so i went inside. i asked the clerk if i could have the invites handcancelled and she said i could do them myself but she wanted to weigh them first, even after i told her that Bernie had already had them weighed and they were $.52. But no. when she weighed them, they were $.63. Even after I gave her a couple of other ones to try. so i told her i'd go back to my car and get my wallet.

when i got back inside, the clerk was gone and so i went to another clerk. she weighed them and they were only $.52! so i handcancelled all 32 of the invites and sent them on their merry way!

the moral of the story - it pays to get a 2nd opinion

today i got my bamboo cups in the mail. i think i want to use three of them for the centerpiece and put astroemerias in them. orange ones of course.

FI bought me some flowers on friday since he knows i've been scoping out which ones to use for centerpieces. i stuck one of the astroemerias in the bamboo cup to see how it would look. i think i like it!

also, i am thinking of copying another jo gartin idea. the bamboo centerpiece was one of hers too. but i want to string cocktail umbrellas with the placecards, like so.

tonight i assembled a couple more invites. here is what they look like completed:

Also, I went to abbey party express or whatever the renovated party store in Mira Mesa is called now (in the vons shopping center by edelweiss) and I bought 144 cocktail umbrellas for 5 bucks! this is for my placecard hanging on a string idea.

tomorrow i'm going to san francisco for a funeral . FI's dad passed away last week from cancer. i'm so sad he isn't going to make it to our wedding. i totally pictured him and FI's mom cutting it up on the dance floor with their ballroom dancing skills.  i hope FI's mom and FI will be ok. i haven't seen him in a week. he left last weekend when the doctors said his dad didn't have much time left. i'm glad FI got to spend time though with him before he died.

i am heartbroken that this happened but is it ok for me to still be excited about the wedding? i have been getting a ton of stuff done and i don't freak out anymore when i look at our to-do list.  i hope i don't come off as insensitive. i know it will be different when i get to SF, I have a feeling I'm going to be an emotional mess. Sigh. Ok. I guess I should start packing now. I'm looking forward to spending time with FI's family, but I'm not looking forward to the freezing rain. Makes me feel so thankful that I live in San Diego!!!

thanks wedding date twinkies for your words of encouragement!!!

this weekend i got so much stuff done!

on friday, we dropped stuff off to nancy, our seamstress in mira mesa (activity rd and black mountain). we had decided that FI was going to wear one of his barongs. but since his father just passed away, FI is actually going to wear one of his father's, in honor of him. it's really nice, and i think he will look great in it, once nancy is done working her magic. it's kinda funny though, i miss my wedding dress. while FI was in SF, i had spent a whole 1/2 hour prancing around the house in it

i also got my veil from ebay!!!  it was custom made for $20 bucks. we've also been getting a slew of RSVP's in the mail. so far, 4 no's and a bazillion yes's. FI also helped with the rest of the invites that we'll be sending in about 2 weeks. he's also been working on the muslin strips for our wedding quilt. good ol' FI. he's a keeper.

i think it's a very sweet idea to use his dad's barong. What color is it?

isn't it fab receiving all the rsvps??  it makes me run to the mailbox everyday! i'm only waiting on about 15 more responses. our due by date is feb 23rd so i can have 6 weeks for final details and i fully plan on calling those lazy people the sat after the due date.

usually barongs are an ivory color but the one FI will be wearing is kinda caramel color. i've never seen a barong that color before and it has a real unique design. i would take a picture of it but it's at the seamstress, hehe.

maura you are so smart for having your rsvp deadline feb 23!  i have two dates, feb 14 for all the family, then march 1 for all the friends. my sister (MOH) volunteered to call all the family that doesn't rsvp in time. i was so relieved when she said that. one less thing i have to do!!!

this morning i had FI drop some invites off at the post office. i told him to make sure they didn't try to stiff him about the postage like they almost did to me last time. sweet, only a couple more invites to go!!!

well the big news for the day is, i lost my florist. i had been coming up with new ideas to cut costs, especially since FI's father passed away and figured one of the biggest savings would be in the flowers. i don't even need that many flowers, just 3 astromerias per table and maybe some for the quilt signing table, a tulip bouquet for me, 2 flower leis for the moms, a maile lei for FI, rose petals for the aisle, and gerbera daisies for the cake. i am planning on ordering all the leis online, then getting the rest from a florist by my house. the centerpieces, cake, and aisle should be easy, just drop, drop, and arrange. my bouquet on the other hand might need some work. i think i can do it myself though. i'll buy some tulips and get practicing.

linda rendon was very nice about it, she was the one that had suggested it because the few flowers that i need would be a loss to their business and i completely understand. at least i will be getting all of my deposit back. i admit, i am a little scared that this might be too overwhelming but i think once i get that bouquet down, everything else will just fall into place.

so in case any of my fellow april fool brides are in need of a florist, linda rendon is available!!!

THINGS WE'VE COMPLETED
-
our rehearsal lunch reservation at sammy's in poway for march 31. woohoo! we decided on what we want to order, we just need to put the order in.

-FI finished working on the muslin strips for our wedding quilt.

-went over wedding layout with Ellis/Yokozuna's

-picked walking in songs for wedding "party" and me

sigh.

i just checked my email. so here's the story. FI's brother in law is a minister and he agreed to officiate our wedding. i got all excited and wrote up this super cool unique civil ceremony. i sent it off to him and he wrote me back today and said how he thought we were going to do a christian one and that he hopes i will change some of it to reflect more of that nature but if we still wanted to do the civil one, he would still do it.

i feel really weird about the whole thing now, i emailed him back and told him that i was sorry that i didn't inform in the beginning that i wanted a civil ceremony and not because i don't believe in God but i just choose to be more introverted about it. hence the whole reason for getting married outside of a church.  plus i think i am more spiritual than religious (i was raised catholic).  i'll have to talk to FI and get his input. i feel weird asking him to still do it though, especially if he feels it is against what he believes in. my best friend though (and "wedding coordinator") offered to perform it for us and just get ordained for the day or whatever you call it, as a plan B.

and another thing. I don't know why she did this, but FI's sister-in-law, the one that wrote me the kinda rude email, bought tickets for FI's mom to come visit us for two whole weeks before the wedding WITHOUT EVEN TELLING US. i mean come on! let us know in advance!  what is she gonna do for 2 whole weeks? what will she eat? will she makeover my kitchen and fill it with white rice and fried foods and encourage FI to eat it all? cuz that's what she did when we were up in SF and he ended up gaining some of the weight that he had lost over the year. i think she thinks i starve him.

yes. a happy valentine's day indeed.

Hey there, just thought I'd stop in to say hi. That kinda sucks about your officiant. But if it's not what he believes in, I'd be afraid he'd try to put in other stuff or something. I'd say just get the officiant for a day thing just in case. It's only $50, and you'll probably feel better having it as a backup. Plus, she can go off and marry someone else that day! J/K.

Maybe next time at kickboxing, you should bring a pic of FI's SIL, and put it on the punching bag....

what a great day this has been, and i'm not being facetious.

i came home early from school since our afternoon session was cancelled (woohoo!) and my 42 bamboo cups from the coconut king came in. yaaay!

also, FI's ring from costco came in today too! my ring came back from the diamond gallery (FI had it engraved) and they cleaned it and it looks so shiny and pretty.

and my caterer, Ellis from Yokozuna's can score me a sheet of haupia (coconut pudding dessert, kinda like flan) for the wedding. that means i can decrease my dessert order from Edelweiss, saving us more $$$.

AND, i got a flower quote from Wholesale flowers, so i may end up getting my flowers from them.

i love it when things come together.

we got so much done today! we are only waiting for 4 more couples to let us know whether or not they are coming. sweeet!

i bought the paper for our table numbers. about to print them soon... i went to "scrapbook your life" off rosecrans and while it was a nice store, they did not have 8.5x11 paper. so i went to the one in poway, by michael's and joanne's. that place has a ton of cool scrapbooking stuff.

on the way home, we decided to eat at sipz, a vegetarian restaurant. it was actually really good, even though the service was slow as hell. i've never had tofu 'meat' before. i ordered the curry 'chicken' and then we had the coconut stuffed with sweet rice for dessert. omg it was so yummy!!!  i'd go back just for that stuffed coconut. the prices were awesome too, and then even have brown rice!!!

FI is watching tv right now and working on the parasol for my sister. it's kinda funny glancing over at him, holding a paintbrush and watching the basketball game.

oooh we also went to wholesale flowers and i placed my flower order. that place is so awesome. and the prices for the flowers make me swoon.

let's see, what else did we do... we dropped off FI's ring to be resized and engraved and i paid off my edelweiss balance. we initially ordered wedding cake, cheesecake, and fruit tarts. but now we are just getting cake from them because we are going to order the fruit tarts (since they are way cheaper) and haupia from yokozuna's. mmmm haupia (coconut pudding).

aw yes. things are starting to come together. i think our next big project is the seating arrangement and the place cards. oh and FI still needs to finish the card box.

It's coming so quickly, and you sound like you're totally on top of things!  The table #s and the TY sign look great!

I can't believe it's 2 weeks till your wedding day... so exciting

wow, i am impressed with everything you got done!!

about meeting your friend... at lunch i was chatting with the new student teacher and my wedding came up. she said youre getting married on april fools? a woman in my cohort is getting married the same day! and i, looking like a complete stalker said, yes, rose.

she looked at me kind of strangely and i said i talk with her on this bridal website. she started laughing and said when she sits behind you in class she can always see you on the website! haha

happy 2 weeks to go!!!
