We bought a house and we closed on FRIDAY. Our downpayment got recorded on Monday and we still do not have the keys. The seller gave us a key to the front door knob but the deadbolt cannot be unlocked w/ that key. Our agent knows and has contacted the seller's agent. She told our agent that the sellers would have the key to her in 30 minutes and she'd bring it to our agent right after that. That was 2 days ago. Our agent cannot get ahold of their agent and she hasn't been at her office. SO, we cannot get into the house that we own. I really don't know what to do. To me, this is a HUGE deal. Our agent just tried calling their again to no avail... but he left a message saying that if we didn't have the keys by 8:00 am then they'd have to pay for a locksmith and pay us for every day that we have owned but cannot enter. The windows are locked too, so we cannot get in at all!

Ohh man that sucks Theresa!  I definitely agree, you need to give them fair warning and then call the locksmith.  It's been like what, 6 days at this point?  Ludicrous!  That's your PROPERTY now!  Good luck and keep us updated.

I know in California it's in the contract that they hand over the keys at close of escrow. So yes, they should be libel for any locksmith costs. But, you know, don't quote me, I'm not your agent.

I would fight them and make them pay for the interest and such you are paying on the house right now and for inconvenience as WELL as the locksmith!  This is just absurd!

That seriously sucks! Your agent should have definitely been on it days ago. I would charge them for each day that you weren't able to get into YOUR home (you are paying interest for these days) as well as the locksmith and anything else I could come up with.

So ridiculous! Get a locksmith and get in there. What the heck are they thinking?

ETA- You'll want to change all the locks when you move in anyway!

Oh my gosh, that is absurd!  I agree w/ the other girls, make them pay for the locksmith and interest for days you couldn't get in your home.  And like Iris said, you'd want to change the locks anyway (because who knows who has copies of the seller's keys) so you may as well have the locksmith change those while he's there and make them pay for that too!  Good luck and keep us posted!

That's insane I'd also file a complaint with the better business bureau for their agent who is not returning calls and lied to you several days ago, Heck I'd be calling their agents boss by now.

Good luck what a sucky situation
